$44.00

December 5, 2026 | 10 AM PST | 2-hour live online gathering + Winter Folklore & Practice Guide (PDF) + recording

The Zoom link and participation details will be sent a week prior to the gathering to the email address provided at checkout. The recording and pdf will be available by December 7th.

The Calendar Call: Winter Threshold explores Eastern European Slavic and Finno-Ugric winter traditions to ask a question: why did the darkest time of year call for so much noise, disguise, divination, and collective celebration?

Through winter ritual calendars, Svyatki, Koliada, masked visitors, caroling, divination, ancestral remembrance, and seasonal celebrations, we’ll explore how different communities understood and responded to this time of year. We’ll examine the relationships between older folk practices, agricultural cycles, and Christian calendars, and how traditions continued to evolve across generations.

The past is not an alternative to the present, but it can help us understand how people have navigated the challenges of being alive.

What you’ll receive:

  • 2-hour live online gathering

A guided exploration of Eastern European Slavic and Finno-Ugric winter folklore, ritual traditions, and cultural practices, with time for discussion and your questions.
