And Quiet Flows the Don — Mikhail Sholokhov | Vintage Soviet Hardcover Books I & II
Mikhail Sholokhov | Foreign Languages Publishing House, Moscow | Undated, Mid-20th Century
A beautiful pair of vintage Soviet-published hardcovers of And Quiet Flows the Don (Тихий Дон), the monumental novel by Russian author and Nobel Prize laureate Mikhail Sholokhov.
Set among the Don Cossacks during the First World War, Russian Revolution, and Civil War, this sweeping literary epic explores love, loyalty, violence, and the transformation of traditional life amid political upheaval.
Published in Moscow by Foreign Languages Publishing House, these English-language editions retain their bilingual Russian and English title pages, original reddish-brown cloth bindings, decorative gold-and-black spine lettering, illustrated frontispieces, and red ribbon bookmarks.
A wonderful piece of Soviet publishing history, particularly appealing to readers and collectors of Russian literature, historical fiction, and vintage books.
